Average Interview – Overall Negative Experience – No – Tue, 16 Mar 2021
Interviewed (took 21 days)
A company headhunter reached out to me; we had a brief conversation and decided to kick the application process off. Another talent manager reachoed out shortly thereafter for a quick screening chat. I was told to expect a personality test to arrive via email. After two days, I had not yet received it, so I reached out to the talent manager via two different channels and received no response. A day later, the test arrived in my spam folder from a non-TELUS email. The hiring lead reached out to me (a different person) to ask about schedule availability, but did not confirm timing on that call. Several days later, a video interview time was set. I participated in a 1-hour panel interview with 5 interviewers, conducted via video conference. The interview itself included ~7 behavioral questions. The conversation felt somewhat transactional as compared to others I have had recently, with little commentary or response from the panel. The questions were broad, and did not probe on anything specific to me or my experience. (I've been on the other side of the table in many hiring processes, and generally I do try to connect the conversation to the person in front of me.) Halfway through the interview, a panelist closed their video, citing connectivity issues. The interviewers could not provide a ballpark timeline for the full process at that time. I followed up almost 2 weeks later to ask about timeline expectations. While I hear fantastic things about the organization, the interview process itself was a somewhat flat and off-putting experience.
